Abstract:

Background and Aim: Swimming Pool can transfer many pathogens. Chlorine concentration and swimmers gender are the most effectors on the quality of Pool water. The scope of this study was to determine the effect of chlorination, Pool depth and swimmer’s gender on the six microbial qualification indices.Materials and Methods: In this descriptive–analytical study which was performed in 2013, thirty six water samples were taken from the different depths of Pools (Pools separated by gender) and the chlorination, turbidity and total Coliform, E. Coli, Heterotrophic bacteria, StreptococcusFeacalis, Staphylococcus Aureus and Pseudomonas Aeroginosa were measured. Results: The total average of residual chlorine in the men's and women's Pools were 1.47 and 2.47 mg/l respectively, which matched with the standard levels in the country, while the mean of E. Coli, Heterotrophic Plate count and Pseudomonas Aeroginosa concentrations in the both Pools were higher than Iranian standards and were more concentrated in the women's Pools than the men's. Also, the turbidity was 1.34 and 1.47 NTU respectively, which was higher than the Iranian standards. Conclusion: In spite of the higher concentration of residual chlorine in the women's Pool, the average concentrations of microbial indices in the women's Pool were higher than the men's. This difference may be related to the swimmers gender. The observed differences in microbial concentrations in different depths of each of the Pools and also between men's and women's Pools were not significant.

Abstract:

The present study investigated the characteristics of hydraulic parameters of Sloped Gabion Drops and Simple Drops. Therefore, 120 different experiments were performed on both types of sloped gabion drop and sloped simple drop with three angles and two heights. Results showed that by increasing the relative critical depth in both tested models, causes a reduction in relative energy dissipation rate but an increase in relative downstream depth. Comparing the results for sloped gabion drops and sloped simple drops showed that the use of gabion structures with three angles and two heights which, have been investigated, increases the average energy dissipation efficiency 561% and the average downstream relative depth 50. 1% compared to the simple drops. So, this results in a decrease in the erosion of the downstream bed of the structure and the length of the Pool. The results showed that as the angle of incline increases, the average energy dissipation efficiency decreases and, the average downstream relative depth increases. The results showed that the change in the angle of the incline in sloped gabion drops had a relatively small effect, in comparison with the simple drops due to the physical properties and the complex hydraulic effects of the flow through the porous structure. Also, some relationships were presented to estimate the relative energy dissipation rate and the downstream relative depth rate in the sloped gabion drops by using 80% percent of laboratory data, and the rest 20% of the data were used to test the relationships with the evaluation criteria.

Abstract:

Application of Flip Bucket in dams, in comparison with other structures needs more research due to fact that the forces that Jet stream inflicts in their collision place to downstream bed lead to scour or fracture of floor slab. Characteristics of dynamic pressure on collision place in various conditions will enable us to determine probability of scouring and exact amount of it, in case of such circumstances in administrative structures, and also it is possible cracking of the downstream slab floor or to determine the stage of particles separation from bed which is important in design of plunge Pool. In this study, with providing conditions to measure the dynamic pressure created on the floor due to the collision of flip bucket jet trying to extract data in different conditions from discharge jet output and depth. The results suggest that the plunge Pool downstream of Flip Bucket jets will be effective when ratio of water depth on the thickness of the jet [y/Bj] is greater than 3.

Abstract:

As far as many water sports like swimming, water polo, and also new science "water curement" are directly related to the healthy condition of water, we have studied the water of some Pools in the present research. This semi experimental research involves studying some microbic and chemical laboratory experiments on water. We have studied 26 roofed and unroofed Pools in Mashhad in order to study the color of water, counting bacteria, comparison of state and private Pools, and comparison of the result with the standards of Health Ministry and Industrial Research. The result showed that from 3.2 water samples taken from Pools, the amount of color left in 22.8 percent of samples were appropriate and according to the standards, and 77.2 percent were not according to the standards. Counting all the bacteria of the samples showed that 45.2 percent of samples were out of the standards. So we have concluded that the studied Pools were polluted. There was a meaningful correlation between the pollution of water and the management of the Pools. And the state Pools were much more polluted than the private Pools. The amount of color left in private Pools was equal to 0.543 milligram per liter, while in state Pools it was 0.389. Also we have found that there is a meaningful correlation between the roofed and unroofed Pools. Health conditions of roofed Pools were much better than unroofed Pools regarding the condition of maintenance. We have found that some factors such as open space, the number of users, and also the sunlight affects on unroofed Pools' water conditions. So the result showed that the government has much more supervision on private Pools while state Pools don't have appropriate conditions.

Abstract:

BOILING OF PURE COMPONENTS HAS BEEN WELL DISCUSSED IN THE LITERATURE, WHILE THE BOILING OF SOLUTIONS HAS BEEN STUDIED IN LESS DETAIL DUE TO ITS HIGH COMPLEXITY. IN THIS INVESTIGATION, A LARGE NUMBER OF EXPERIMENTS HAVE BEEN PERFORMED TO MEASURE THE NUCLEATE BOILING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS OF WATER/DIETHANOLAMINE (DEA) AND WATER/MONOETHANOLAMINE (MEA) BINARY SOLUTIONS. BASED ON OUR EXPERIMENTAL DATA, EFFECTS OF DIFFERENT PHYSICAL PROPERTIES SUCH AS SURFACE TENSION, VISCOSITY AND DENSITY OF SOLUTIONS ON NUCLEATE BOILING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENTS AND ALSO ON BUBBLE DYNAMICS HAVE BEEN DISCUSSED. FURTHERMORE, IN THIS ARTICLE A NEW CORRELATION HAS BEEN DEVELOPED ON THE BASIS OF CORRELATION OF STEPHAN AND KÖRNER WHICH IS KNOWN AS A SUCCESSFUL CORRELATION FOR THE PREDICTION OF NUCLEATE BOILING HEAT TRANSFER COEFFICIENT OF SOLUTIONS. COMPARISON OF THE PREDICTION OF NEW CORRELATION WITH OUR EXPERIMENTAL DATA INDICATES THAT THIS MODIFICATION CAN SIGNIFICANTLY IMPROVE THE PERFORMANCE OF STEPHAN AND KÖRNER CORRELATION.

Abstract:

Pool water must have a certain quality parameters for the vital processes of trout. For this purpose, monitoring of a Pool water quality of trout farms is realized using fuzzy logic with graphical user interface (GUI). Pool water qualities of four trout farms with different sources were investigated in terms of chemical oxygen demand, ammonium nitrogen, pH and electrical conductivity parameters during 270 days of study period between August 2011 and April 2012. The resulting data set created a 21 × 32-sized matrix for all parameters. Comparison between input and output waters of Pools is made with SPSS (PASW 18) software for parameter changes in the Pools. It would be too difficult for the observer researcher to interpret this set, a computer program was developed with fuzzy logic system, the decision-making tool, to graphically present the Turkish Water Pollution Control by laws state in Pool water quality. Fuzzy logic was used in the evaluation of these data and notification of the critical states which exceeded the limiting values. The classification of the product of the quality characteristics is performed by human experts due to the absence of measuring devices. The program is developed to graphically present the conditions regarding Pool water quality with GUI. Fuzzy logic results are presented on the monitors. The results enable even those people with inadequate knowledge about the subject to comment on Pool water quality of farms. This software increases awareness of the water quality.

Abstract:

The design calculations of the spent fuel Pool require the consideration of various parameters such as neutronic, thermal-hydraulic, safety, shielding, economic and operation. Considering the high cost of designing and building of a new spent fuel Pool as well as the existence of empty spaces in the Pool of some research reactors, neutronic and shielding calculations for the feasibility of using second Pool of a typical research reactor as a spent fuel Pool is done using ORIGEN2.1 and MCNP6 codes. The first step is the determination of the distance between fuels (grid pitch) in such a way that the effective multiplication factor for the worst possible case is less than 0.95, that 13 cm grid pitch fulfills this condition. Source term calculation for a fuel with the highest burnup (60%) is done as the most pessimistic condition. Continuous operation and 24 hours cooling are considered as the shortest possible time to transfer spent fuels to the storage rack in order to have the most pessimistic conditions in the design of spent fuel rack. For a rack with 100 spent fuels that is 87 cm away from the Pool wall on each side, a 300 cm layer of water on top of the fuels and 85 cm thick concrete wall are enough for the possibility of using second Pool as a spent fuel Pool. It has been found that it meets the dose rate criteria of less than 1 and 10 μSv/h behind the wall and above the Pool water level.
